Keeping kids busy, productive and off the streets. Right here in Truro and area there are over 50 kids waiting for a Big Brother or Big Sister. Kids 'n' Kops provides some of these kids with an opportunity to have fun and learn about law enforcement. Sponsored by the Truro Police Service the 5 day program is run throughout March Break. Mornings are run "academy style" where kids learn about policing. Ident, K-9 unit, Safety Presentations, Drug awareness programs, traffic services, fingerprinting, lock ups and other aspects of police work are reviewed by local "kops". Afternoons are spent doing fun activities with police officers showing the kids the human side of policing. After a child has bowled, swam, skiied or played lego with a "kop"...they tend to see them as their friend and develop a trust that may not have been there before. They build a good rapport with the officers and get a better understanding of what policework is all about. A graduation ceremony takes place on the final afternoon. It's a win-win program that benefits everyone...kids, police and the community. Kids must be enrolled in the Big Brother - Big Sister program to participate. Corporate sponsors greatly appreciated.
